Kachikwu: We Saved $287m In Port Harcourt Refinery Turnaround Maintenance

         The Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, has said Nigeria has saved over $287 million from the turnaround maintenance (TAM) of the Port Harcourt Refinery, Eleme.

Kachikwu made the disclosure shortly after an inspection tour of the refinery ON Wednesday.

He said foreign companies had requested to carry out the TAM at a cost of $297 million but the NNPC used its manpower and local oil servicing firms to achieve the maintenance at the cost of less than $10 million.

The immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday refused to answer questions on the allegations of corruption levelled against him. Fashola was alleged to have spent N139m on two boreholes at the Lagos House, Ikeja, and another N78.3m for the upgrade of a personal website.

The former governor, who was the guest speaker at the 16th Bishop Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture, urged Nigerians to ensure that they hold their leaders accountable always. The event, which was held at the Shell Hall of the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos Island, was titled, ‘The Nigerian political Class and the Citizen’s Quest for Good Governance.’

The governor said most Nigerians failed to hold their political leaders to their campaign promises after elections.

11yr old daughter of Chief Imam of Bauchi Central Mosque poisoned to death

      The daughter of Chief Imam of Bauchi Central Mosque, Alhaji Ahmed Baban-Inna, Hajara Ahmed was allegedly poisoned to death on Monday by a man whose identity was given as Jarelu Ahmed, NAN reports.  According to Bauchi Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Haruna Mohammed, who spoke to NAN on Thursday, the 30-year-old suspect buried the deceased in his room after killing her.
